Melanie Egan has been actively involved with contemporary craft and design for over 30 years. She is currently the Head of Craft & Design at Harbourfront Centre. She develops and presents programs; curates, lectures and writes. She edited the book Crafting New Traditions: Canadian Innovators and Influences published by the Canadian Museum of Civilization, 2008; in 2013 she curated RE: Position – dialogue between the functional/decorative and art object; and STUFF: Ingenuity and Critique – Danish craft & design in 2004. She sits on the Editorial Advisory and Nominations Committee at Craft Ontario, the Program Committee at the Textile Museum of Canada and the PAC committees for OCAD University: Material Arts and Design; and Sheridan College: Craft & Design. She was a founding board member of SKETCH – Working Arts for Homeless and Street-involved Youth. Along with Paul McClure she is Director and Founder of the Toronto International Jewellery Festival.
